Quality issue:
Continuous processes often provide better quality of the final product. They always ensure grater stability, because operate at steady state and operating conditions change slightly : they can be tightly controlled.

Investment costs issue:
To get same productivity smaller equipment are required with respect to batch processes (tens of liters instead of cubic meters), with significant savings in terms of: equipment, buildings, structures, apparatuses, scrubber facilities and so on. Safety issues, for example explosion-proof equipment, can be lower class and cheaper since whole quantity simultaneously in process is lower with respect to batch process. Literature data show that equipment costs are 3,5 times lower than batch plants.

Production costs issue:
Main reasons that ensure cheaper production costs are:
Less labor costs, because of high automation degree of continuous apparatuses
High recycle degree of solvents involved determining lower environmental impact. This is due to the lower amount of solvents required for production and the lower amount of wastes generated.

Time to market issue:
Amount of product is easily scalable depending by project requirements: preliminary tests can be conducted by using product obtained in short runs, then larger quantities, typical of industrial production, can be obtained by running the same plant continuously .
Pilot tests and industrial production are done with the same apparatus, only by changing the “time on stream”, with less costs, time lags and validation issues required if plants were modified.
